Munich-Uganda-Kenya

We are very excited to have received funding to set up a network with our partners Julius Mulindwa in Uganda and Kevin Marucha in Kenya to study antigenic variation in T. brucei-infected cows directly in the field.

Parasite Single Cell Omics Workshop

Anna, Nicolai, and Markus recently travelled to Africa to meet with our collaborators from Portugal, Uganda and Kenya to host a workshop on single-cell omics in parasites. We were impressed by the high level of engagement and curiosity among the participants. It was wonderful to see so many motivated students and young scientists contributing to discussions and sharing new perspectives. During the visit, we also had the opportunity to observe infected livestock and discuss ongoing research and future directions with colleagues in the field. A big thank you to our funder, DFG and everyone who helped make this event possible, and in particular to Dr. Julius Mulindwa and Dr. Kevin Kamany for their generous hospitality and for providing the facilities.

Here is the selection of photos from the visit:

Field Work at Lambwe Valley, southwestern Kenya

As part of an ongoing DFG-funded research project, our collaborators in Uganda and Kenya shared a series of photos documenting their latest fieldwork.
These photos show a visit to Lambwe Valley where blood samples were collected from cattle infected with T. brucei brucei. Our joint research aims to understand how parasites regulate antigenic variation in real field conditions rather than in a laboratory setting.
