Welcome to the Spermatology Laboratory at the Equine Clinic!
In our state-of-the-art spermatology laboratory, we offer a variety of tests and procedures.
As part of a breeding suitability examination, the ejaculate is first analyzed for standard parameters:
- Determination of sperm concentration, calculation of total sperm count (NucleoCounter®, Chemometek)
- Assessment of sperm motility using the CASA system (Computer-Assisted Semen Analysis, AndroVision®, Minitüb)
- Assessment of sperm morphology using special staining
- Assessment of sperm viability (NucleoCounter®, Chemometek)
In addition to standard procedures, our laboratory can perform advanced tests such as the assessment of DNA and acrosome integrity.
In addition to testing fresh ejaculates, we also offer testing of preserved semen samples.
As a recognized EU artificial insemination station, our services also include the production and shipment of chilled and frozen semen. In addition to processing ejaculates, we can also produce frozen semen from the epididymis. You can find more information on the collection and preservation of epididymal semen here.
