Residency Oncology

Residents of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) Subcollege Oncology are trained in oncology at the LMU Small Animal Clinic. The aim is to train internationally recognized specialists and to raise the standard of training in veterinary oncology in Germany in international comparison. As an 'Invited Specialist' on behalf of the European Board of Veterinary Specialization (EBVS), Prof. Hirschberger was one of the three founders of the ECVIM-CA Subcollege Oncology. The first European residency program for oncology was launched in Munich in 2006 after the college was founded. The requirements for a residency program in oncology include comprehensive training in all areas of oncological diagnostics and oncological therapy.

The focus of further training is "Medical Oncology". The training comprises approx. 50% internal medicine and 50% oncology and lasts a total of 4 years. Information on the ECVIM-CA can be found on the homepage www.ecvim-ca.org.
