Residency program to obtain the title: "Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals" (Dipl. ECVIM-CA)
In Munich, we offer a residency in internal medicine (ECVIM-CA) every year. The residencies at the Small Animal Clinic start on July 1st of each year. Here is an excerpt from the residency program in internal medicine at the Small Animal Clinic:
Prerequisites
Completed studies in veterinary medicine, with a diploma from an internationally recognized university. Proof of a recognized internship program or equivalent practical work experience at a small animal veterinary clinic. Good language skills in German and English.
Training objectives
Acquisition of detailed, practical and theoretical knowledge in the field of small animal internal medicine.
Develop the ability to plan, conduct and publish a scientific study on an area of small animal internal medicine. Fulfilling the requirements for admission to the specialist examinations of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animal and successful completion.
The program consists of four years of training at the Medical Small Animal Clinic of the University of Munich, with rotations through the service areas for dermatology, cardiology and neurology. One year of training takes place abroad. Twelve Diplomates work at the clinic, seven of whom are Diplomates of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Further training
Residents are encouraged and familiarized with the latest knowledge through active participation in book reviews, journal clubs and continuing education seminars. Participation in veterinary congresses in Germany and abroad is also part of the training.
Teaching
The residents actively participate in the training of students during the clinical rotation. They are involved in continuing education events for veterinarians in practice and practice their skills in giving lectures and seminars.
Research
During the course of their training, the residents carry out a research project under the guidance of a mentor, which is published in an international journal. This is part of the requirements for admission to the ECVIM-CA examination.
Assessment
The candidate's performance and progress are evaluated at least twice a year (more frequently if necessary), discussed with the candidate and recorded in writing.
