Veronikas' Talk Title: Transforming monitoring through AI: An industry perspective
Dr. Veronika Weber is Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and member of the leadership team of Vion Food Group since January 2025. She studied Veterinary Medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and earned her doctorate at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. After completing an 18-month trainee programme in central quality management at Vion, she was appointed Group Quality Manager. In June 2023, she became Director Quality Assurance and, from June 2024, additionally assumed responsibility as Director Operations, overseeing operations across Vion’s German sites before moving into the role as CSO. In her current position she leads the central Quality Assurance, Sustainability, Science & Innovation, and Communications teams for Germany and the Netherlands. Veronika focuses on turning scientific knowledge into practical solutions and on creating improvements that can be implemented in everyday operations. Her experience includes the development and implementation of animal welfare and quality systems and rebuilding and optimisation of slaughterhouses. Veronika and her team at Vion implement new technologies to support the daily operation. This includes AI-supported camera surveillance systems, VR- tools for employee education and infrastructure improvements as well as innovative approaches for improvements along the supply chain enhancing animal welfare, food safety and product integrity.
