Sandys' Talk Title: Bitesize Biosecurity: AI for Accessible Biosecurity Guidance for Farmers and Veterinarians
Dr Sandy Carmichael is a Research Associate at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), where he works within the Centre for Epidemiology and Planetary Health (CEPH) at the Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre (RAVIC) in Inverness. He completed his PhD in Computing Science at the University of Stirling in 2024, applying computer vision and machine learning to Atlantic salmon medical imaging. Sandy applies computing science to veterinary and public health challenges, developing AI and data science tools across agriculture, aquaculture, and animal health. His particular interests include biosecurity, antimicrobial resistance, and salmon gill health. He is an advocate for responsible AI in animal health — believing technology should augment, not replace, expert judgement.
