We are delighted to have Bas as invited speaker at the ECVPH Scientific Conference 2026.
Bas' Talk title: AI foundation models for food safety.
Bas van der Velden, PhD, is the head of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Wageningen Food Safety Research. He leads a diverse, international, and interdisciplinary team of 25 researchers in AI and data science. Bas sets strategic directions, fosters the personal growth of team members, leads projects, and contributes to EU consortia on AI in food safety research. Bas led Work Packages in the EU projects HOLiFOOD, EFRA, and ECO-READY and is deputy coordinator of HOLiFOOD. Bas authored many high-impact peer reviewed publications as well as the FAO report on artificial intelligence for food safety. Bas is a member of the European Food Safety Authority Advisory Group on Data Innovation subgroup and organizer and initiator of the Artificial Intelligence in Food Safety (AIFS) Conference.
