This year's local meeting of scientists working on Evolutionary Genomics in Munich took place on the 19th and 20th of March, and highlighted the level of research been done at bavarian institution on this field. Both the invited plenary speakers (Prof. Molly Schumer, Prof. Matthew Hahn and Prof. Jörg Overmann) and local scientists presenting they great research showed how active the community is and how diverse and interconnected our research is. It was also a great oportunity for networking over a relaxed and open environment, surrounded by the beautiful Nymphenburg palace and gardens.

The Animal Systems Genomics Chair contributed with some of our more recent results on domestic animals:

  • Dr. Lachie Scarsbrook presented an overview of his work on dog genomics, (some of which was published in Nature a few days later).
  • Dr. Ishmael Ng'ang'a presented the project him and Dr. James Ward are working on, focused on African cattle genomics and how modern African cattle breeds adapted to such harsh environments.
  • Mahaut Goor presented a poster on some of the early results of her PhD on the evolution of phenotypical adaptations on domestic dogs.

As with previous editions of this conference, we would like to thank the organizers and the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Stiftung for organizing such a nice event.
