Our recent work on the development of new anti-malarial drugs has been highlighted in Tagesschau.
We are proud to share that our recent research on malaria has been featured by Tagesschau.
In collaboration with Gernot Längst from the University of Regensburg, the Chair of Experimental Parasitology, led by Markus Meißner, has identified a promising new approach in the fight against malaria. The newly developed compound targets a key genetic switch in the parasite's complex life cycle. This breakthrough could lead to the first treatment capable of eliminating the parasite in all of its stages — in the liver, in the blood, and preventing its transmission back to mosquitoes.
This innovation represents a major step forward in malaria treatment and prevention, offering hope for millions affected by this deadly disease. However, ongoing funding cuts in the US threaten essential research infrastructure such as the VEuPathDB genomic database, which is critical to our work and the broader malaria research community.
Despite these challenges, we remain committed to advancing the science that can save lives and reduce the global burden of malaria.
