Reproductive medicine
Like surgery, gynecology/reproductive medicine is a separate discipline of veterinary medicine. It covers diseases of the reproductive system, obstetrics, and reproductive medicine. Gynecologists/reproductive medicine specialists also perform castrations. Gynecology and reproductive medicine services cover all areas of reproduction in dogs and cats. Specifically, these are:
fertility management
- Castration, suppression of estrus, prevention of implantation, pregnancy testing
- Breeding suitability test for male animals (semen analysis)
- Sperm preservation and storage (fresh sperm, frozen sperm)
- Insemination (also artificial insemination)
Diagnosis of puppy diseases
Reproductive disorders in female animals
- Diseases of the uterus (pyometra), ovaries, and vagina
- Pregnancy disorders, obstetrics, postnatal disorders, puppy diseases
- Diseases of the mammary glands (mammary tumors, pseudopregnancy)
Reproductive disorders in male animals
- Impaired fertility
- Diseases of the testicles (tumors), prostate, and penis
