Diagnosis and treatment of dogs with diseases of the upper and lower urinary tract, e.g.

  • chronic kidney disease
  • acute renal failure
  • urolithiasis
  • FLUTD
  • Congenital disorders of the urinary tract, e.g., ectopic ureters
  • incontinence
  • Urinary stones/laser lithotripsy

We specifically carry out the following tests:

  • blood pressure measurement
  • all relevant laboratory tests of blood and urine
  • Renal function diagnostics including iohexol clearance for estimating GFR
  • digital X-ray
  • ultrasound
  • CT and MRI
  • Fine needle aspiration and biopsy of altered kidneys
  • Video endoscopic examination of the urinary tract and sampling for histological and bacteriological examinations

In addition to all standard outpatient and inpatient drug therapies and surgical interventions, the following treatment methods can be performed:

  • Extracorporeal blood purification procedures (hemodialysis, immunoadsorption) performed by the team of Dr. R. Dörfelt (intensive care and emergency medicine)
  • Endoscopy-assisted laser lithotripsy of urinary stones
  • Endoscopy-assisted laser ablation for intramural ectopic ureters in dogs
  • Treatment of ureteral obstructions by implantation of a subcutaneous ureteral bypass and follow-up care
  • Sclerotherapy for idiopathic renal hematuria
  • Nutritional advice from the team led by PD Dr. Petra Kölle
