Important information in an emergency
Here you will find all the important information in the event of an emergency
General information
Please note that we only treat dogs and cats - no wild animals and no small pets.
Student training takes place in our clinic. This means that your animal is examined by a team - always under the supervision of a specialist. This procedure is more time-consuming, but you and your pet will benefit from the latest veterinary knowledge and the latest therapeutic options.
Rabies vaccination protection is active animal protection
We ask for your understanding that we can only treat and hospitalize dogs and cats at the LMU Small Animal Clinic from abroad or after previous trips abroad if they have valid rabies protection. The rabies vaccination must be documented by a veterinarian either in the national vaccination certificate (valid in Germany) and/or in the EU pet passport (mandatory for travel within the EU).
Animals from abroad and animals of unknown origin that are presented without rabies vaccination cannot be treated at the LMU Small Animal Clinic.
Rabies is a serious infectious disease for humans and animals that still occurs in some countries. Pet owners should therefore - also for their own safety - have their pets regularly vaccinated against rabies.
The illegal trade in puppies is also to be prevented by the obligation to provide evidence.
Prepare for hospitalization of your pet.
The attending veterinarian may recommend a hospital stay for further diagnostic measures or treatment. Complex problems can be diagnosed more accurately and effectively with an inpatient stay, and patients can receive more targeted treatment.
Emergencies, for example, often require intensive care and monitoring and therefore often have to be admitted as inpatients.
We will call you:
If your dog or cat has been admitted as an inpatient, our dedicated, professional team will provide intensive and loving care for your pet seven days a week, around the clock. So that you don't have to worry, we will inform you of the current status once a day.
Please inform yourself regularly about the treatment costs.
After the initial examination - before any further diagnostic measures are carried out or your pet is admitted to hospital - you will receive a cost estimate. Our vets will inform you of any changes in your pet's state of health as well as any additional measures required and the associated costs.
Please note that the entire invoice amount must be paid immediately at the end of an appointment or when collecting an inpatient. Payment in installments is not possible. Please inform us of any upper cost limit before the start of treatment.
All financial matters are treated confidentially by our clinic staff.
The costs are invoiced on the basis of the scale of fees for veterinarians (GOT). In the case of emergency services, very time-consuming or complex services or diagnostic or therapeutic measures that require a specialized senior veterinarian, the triple rate may be applied.
This is the only way we can guarantee the high quality of medical care for our patients, our wide range of services and our year-round 24-hour emergency service - as we, as a university veterinary clinic, are bound by the requirements of the Minimum Wage and Working Hours Act, just like private veterinary clinics.
