The European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) was founded in 1988 and is based in Vienna.
Members are veterinary faculties and universities engaged in teaching and research in veterinary medicine and science. In 2021, 101 of the 110 veterinary education institutions in Europe were members of EAEVE.
The EAEVE has set itself the task of harmonizing veterinary education at educational institutions in Europe, establishing research-based veterinary education at a high level of quality, and promoting its continuous development in the context of societal challenges. In particular, the aim is to monitor the practical implementation of the minimum quality standards laid down in Directive 2005/36/EC on veterinary education.
The monitoring of minimum quality standards is based on the European System for the Evaluation of Veterinary Education, which is administered by the EAEVE in joint responsibility with the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE). This is a peer review process. The members of the review panel therefore come from veterinary institutions.
The evaluation is a completely transparent process based on a system of visits by the review panel together with regular mandatory interim reports from the institution being evaluated. The last visit to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine took place from June 20 to 24, 2022, and the re-visit from April 18 to 20, 2023. The result was "ACCREDITATION. "
Accreditation according to the EAEVE/FVE evaluation system guarantees
- students that their education meets high standards.
- the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at LMU and its staff that your veterinary training meets high standards.
- the patient owners that they can trust the training of our licensed veterinarians.
Further objectives of the EAEVE are:
- Promoting cooperation between member institutions.
- The provision of a discussion forum for improving and harmonizing veterinary training.
- Facilitating the flow of information between staff, students, stakeholders, and the public, as well as between participating veterinary training institutions.
