Next deadline for submitting dissertations
Monday, March 30, 2026
Future submission deadlines: The final submission date will be the last Monday in March or the first Monday in October. If that Monday is a holiday (Easter Monday, German Unity Day), the deadline will be the following Tuesday!
Submission of the dissertation: Experience has shown that applications for doctoral candidacy and the submission of dissertations do not necessarily have to be done in person but are typically handled via (internal) mail! If you prefer to submit your dissertation in person, please schedule an appointment with the Doctoral Office!
If the submission is sent via (internal) mail, the doctoral candidate should notify the Dean’s Office of the mailing via email (promotion08@dekanat.vetmed.uni-muenchen.de) so that a “should be / is” comparison can be made!
Information sheets will soon only be available in Collab.
The search for a doctoral thesis topic is the responsibility of the interested student. You can find calls for proposals on the websites of the institutes at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine as well as in the job postings on the LMU website. Once you have found a supervisor, please fill out the form “Notification of a Doctoral Project.” You must then submit the form to your supervisor* and the chair of the relevant department at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for their signatures. For external research projects, you must also obtain the signature of your mentor. The term “supervisor” is clearly defined in the doctoral regulations. The doctoral regulations stipulate that this must, without exception, be a member of the doctoral committee at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine! Members of the doctoral committee include full professors, adjunct professors, and private lecturers.
You should then submit the completed "Notification of a Doctoral Project" form to the Dean’s Office (Doctoral Office). In return, you will receive a confirmation from the Dean’s Office (Doctoral Office) for the Student Affairs Office if you wish to re-register or register as a doctoral student. This certificate will only be issued if the “Notification of a Doctoral Project” form is fully completed (including the exam date and final grade)! If the final grade has not yet been determined at the time of the doctoral project notification, the certificate cannot be issued!
For information regarding enrollment or transfer into the doctoral program (deadlines, required documents, etc.), please visit the Student Affairs Office website—Section 5: Doctoral Studies.
